Confluence: stacking reasons

Combining structure, levels and momentum into a setup.

What confluence means

A setup is stronger when several independent reasons agree — e.g. an uptrend, a retest of flipped resistance, and a bullish sweep of a local low.

Avoid forcing it

If you have to squint to find reasons, there's probably no trade. Waiting is a position.

Still probabilistic

Even great setups fail. Confluence improves the odds; it never removes risk. That's why every trade still needs a stop.

Key takeaways

  • Look for 2–3 independent reasons.
  • No clear setup = no trade.
  • Good setups still lose sometimes.

Exercise

Review your last trade idea. List every reason for it. How many were truly independent?
